Why did my front car speakers all of a sudden quit?

What is the sound quality like if you just have rear speakers in a car, without front speakers?

  • I just want to remove the front speakers for my 1998 civic and only use the rear speakers. Is it possible to do that or do you need the front speakers? And how would the sound quality be? I am not trying to have some steller sound system, just want something basic but was wondering if rear speakers with no front speakers sounds ok.

  • Answer:

It would sound like your neighbors next door have their speakers up too loud and you're stuck listening through the wall. Try it out, maybe that's good enough. You're better off just having front speakers and no rear speakers then the other way around.

It's like going to a concert and sitting with your back towards the stage. The majority of the music is supposed to come from the front. Rear speakers are really only supposed to add ambience.

Kaazer is right. You should always have front speakers. Thats where you music should come from. Its called staging and staging from the front always sounds better than staging from the rear. Think about how your ear is designed. It is meant to hear things in front of you not behind. You wouldn't want to drive down the street with you head turned around so you can hear the music better.
