How would I wire subs to AMP?

How do I wire my subs to get best performance with my amp?

  • I have got 2 Sony Xplod subs. Model number is XS-LE121W. They are single voice coil 4 ohm subs with 300 watts rms and 1000 watts peak. My amp is a two-channel Rockford Fosgate P2002. It's specs are 50w x 2 @ 4 ohms RMS / 100w x 2 @ 2 ohms RMS / and 200w x 1 @ 4 ohms bridged RMS. The way i have got it wired is one sub to each channel. It is kind of loud inside the truck, but you don't really hear it coming down the road like everyone else's. I know the amp probably isn't powerful enough. I think I have got it wired where it's just pushing 50w per channel. From what i have researched, i think i can get a 2 ohm load by parallel wiring? If so, would that be the way to turn 50w per sub into 100w per sub? And if so, when i'm wiring parallel, do i run a wire from amp's positive to sub #1's positive and a wire from amp's negative to sub #2's negative? Then a wire from sub #1's positive to sub #2's positive and a wire from sub #1's negative to sub #2's negative? Please help me! And i am also thinking about purchasing another amp. I was told the amp i have now is for mids and highs. What amp do you recommend for the subs i have? And how do I hook up an amp to my mids and highs and another amp to my subs? Thank you for your help!

  • Answer:

you doing the best you can do now. you can wire them in parallel to get a 2ohm load...but you can then only hook them to 1 channel and they will get the 50w/ea again. it would be nice of you could bridge the amp and parallel the subs....but that amp can't do 2ohm bridged. get a mono amp for your subs...one that is 2ohm stable (most are at least that) and wire them in parallel. get one that does 600w @ 2ohm. and for your highs, a 2channel is not the best, a 4channel is ideal. but you can hook one set in parallel to one side and do the same for the other. as for powering 2 amps, you'll need a distrobution blco to split the power wire. ground the amps as usual. you can split the remote wire to them. the rca's...you may be able to go to one amp and from that to the other if you first amp has a "though" or "rca out" on if. if not you can get "Y" splitters for them.
