How do i power up my car radio?

Car radio. Can i directly hook it to battery for power?

  • i have a pioneer avic-f90bt multimedia navigation receiver. (Radio + more) i have heard i can put the yellow and the red wires together and attach them to the positive side, and take the black ground wire to the negative side to power the radio. is this true? if so any more details in this process i need to know? [the radio will not be left like this, i would just do this to power the radio to check if it runs/ works before i install it completely] thanks!

  • Answer:

Yes you can do this the only problem is it will not turn off with the ignition you will have to make sure you turn it off every time. If you are only testing it prior to install it will be fine wire the red and yellow wire together, then hook that to the positive terminal of the battery and the black ground to negative it will work no problem, unless something is wrong with it to begin with.

Yes sure. If you are going to do it often or leave it permanently buy an inline fuse holder, probably couple bucks ($3-5)and put it in the positive wire that goes to the power. It will save your radio from shorting out and burning up. and you can replace the fuse for super cheap ,instead of buying a new radio
