Can I change the stock stereo and add an amp and speakers and subs to my 97 lincoln town car without problems?

  • my granddad thinks that if I change the stereo in my 1997 lincoln town car and add a 4000 watt amp and speakers to it that it would mess up the computers in the car, I think that I would be able to do it, need help please, let me know if I can or can't, if i can let me know what I need to do

    That's a lot of watts. I imagine it divided among a number of amps and a crossover and capacitors. What you need is adequate alternator output. A stock Lincoln has to be at least 100 amps (just my guess, but you need to know). Power the system directly from the battery (or a second battery dedicated to the system). Shouldn't effect the computer at all.

Of course it wouldnt mess up the computers. Only thing is dude you dont need a 4000 watt amp. i would get one 1000 watt amp for the door speakers and another 1000 to 1200 watt amp for the subs. this still might be too much for the alternator though

tell ur granddad that how do u think all the other ppl got there stereos in? haha and ya 4000 watts is way way to much. u will blow everything 1000 watt amp should just be right for it but make sure u test it first rather than just turn ur volume up and see how loud it is haha hope this helps
