Car audio system help?

Car Audio--Help with designing car audio system?

  • I currently have a Rockford Fosgate Punch P200-2 amp and an Infinity 10" subwoofer (don't know the model) that I bought from Best Buy and had installed in a different car several years ago. Now I have a 2001 Honda Civic and am wanting to incorporate those two things into a new system. But I have absolutely no knowledge when it comes to this sort of thing. I want a new head unit, door speakers and 6x9's, another sub, and amp. I've done a little research and I'm thinking that the Fosgate amp that I currently have should be able to power all 4 of the speakers, with the help of the head unit. But I'm looking for help on what kind of head unit I should buy. I've seen ones with 1+ RCA out/pre-out (I don't know the difference between those). So I guess I need to start there. Also, for the amps, will I need mono, 2, or 4-channel? I don't know the difference between SVC and DVC, regarding subs..just please be as thorough as you can. I really have no specifications except for that I want 4 after-market speakers and another sub. I just have no idea what specifications to look for in those products. Thanks!

I would start over and not use your old stuff. Why not to use your old stuff... You do not want to run two different subs. That's will not sound good. Also the amp you have currently is only 2ch, and if bridged only 200 watts. So if you really wanted to use it, you would need two low power tens. Like kicker comps( I'm sure there's some better ones but those are all I can think of right now.) Head unit... Buy a quality head unit. Make sure it has 3 sets of RCA outs. ( front, rear, sub). Amps... Depends on preference and how big you are trying to go. You can buy one five ch amp that runs everything. Or buy one 4 ch for your speakers and one mono for your subs. do not go cheap here either. Stay away from amps that are only 100$ and claim to put a bunch of watts. Speakers and sub... Try your best to listen to as much as you can. And pick what sounds good to you. Everybody has different opinions of what sounds good.
