What cables should I have to connect speakers amp and sub in my car?

Can i hook my front speakers up to my head unit and connect rears and sub to amp?

  • I have purchased a headunit with built in amp 4x50 watt. 6.5" speakers 400watt peak a pair, and a 1400 watt with 400 RMS.. would i be able to hook my 2 front speak up to my head unit, then hook the rear pair and the sub to an amp? i am going to buy an amp, but unsure what sort of wattage i would need, any clues for how many speak watts to amp watts? Please help!

  • Answer:

Sure, you can amp just the rear speakers and a sub if you want. You could do it with a single bridgeable 4-channel by connecting the rear speakers to 2 separate channels and bridge the other two for the sub. You could also use a "3-channel amp" that has a dedicated subwoofer channel. Or you could use 2 amps, a 2-channel amp for the rear speakers and a monoblock for the sub. The simplest install and best combination of price and performance would probably be a 3-channel amp similar to this one: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11537_Kicker+08ZX550.3.html If you want to go the 4-channel route, this Rockford-Fosgate would be a good choice: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9102_Rockford+Fosgate+Power+T400-4+-Black+Box-.html

If you want to blow the rears up sure! Just hook them up to the deck, or you would have to buy another amp for them if you do not want to do that.
