What's a good ipod-compatible car stereo?

Whats wrong with my car stereo?

  • Hey i am trying to install an aftermarket stereo in my old 89 landrover. I know about all this stuff and have previously installed one in a 76 landrover powering straight from the battery and modified a 106's system, so i know what im doing. However trying to install this stereo, i have run power wires both straight off the battery and from the existing wiring loom. Both times the radios power up but when turned up the music is crackling and sounds crap, i know its not the speakers and iv tried two different stereos so its not that either. could it be the wiring? any hlep would be much appreciated.

Could very well be bad wires running to the speakers. Make sure your speaker wires are running to the right outputs (I'm sure you already have, just saying)

Could be noise coupling in from the engine's ignition system. How does it sound with the engine off (stereo running on "accessory")? If it's noisy only with the engine running, look for a choke to put in series with the power line, and / or a capacitor to put between the power line and ground.
