Question about car speakers?

Amplifiing Car speakers question?

  • Hello! I'm going to amplify my after-market car speakers that are rated 200watt with an amp that gives 100watts to each speaker. I'm not sure if I can take apart the doors to get to get to each speaker and feed the wires around the car so it wont make interference and not get in the way of people. So I was wondering if I can just extend the speaker wires that connect to the main head unit, and connect them through to the amp through the center of the car, My only question is if the Gauge of the wire is enough and will it create big signal interference since the wires are going to be close to each other. It would just save me so much work so I don't tear up the car. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Sure, you could, but you would have to cut the wires from the factory stereo harness, which would prevent you from easily being able to put the car back to stock if you ever wanted to. Also, it would be pretty ghetto and quality would probably suffer a bit. Stock wiring is a pretty small gauge as it's intended for the really low-powered head units that come in vehicles. 100 watts isn't a ton, but over a long span of small gauge wire like that, you might experience signal loss. Your best bet really is to run new wires into the doors from the amplifier. Getting into the doors is typically easier than you would expect. What kind of a vehicle is it?
