Questions about head units, amps, speakers, subs, etc.?
-
I just bought 4 rockford fosgate t1652 speakers which have peak power handling of 150W and RMS of 22-75W. I also bough a new head unit which has peak power handling of 50W X 4 Channels and RMS of 17W X 4 Channels. I got it all hooked up and it just isnt as loud as I want it. I was wondering how I could make my speakers a lot louder and am not sure if i need to get a new head unit, speakers, or both. I also considered running a 400W 4 channel amp to the speakers as well. How do I get my speakers louder? I am going to put 2 12 inch subs eventually and want my speakers to be able to keep up. Thanks! Do i need more RMS watts for either the head unit or speaker? How do i get my speakers louder?

Answer:
Alright first, a common mistake ppl make is going by or even acknowledging max watts. That number is 110% MEANINGLESS. From now on when buying car audio, you eat breath, sleep, and shitt RMS power. And an amp is the only way to make your system louder well the best way. And if I'm interpreting this correctly you got some smaller speakers for highs and bigger speakers for mids right? 22 for the smalls? What you should do is buy a 5 channel amp. it has 4 channels for speakers and one specially for a sub or two. (You only need 1 nice sub) Match the RMS rating on everything you but. You should buy a 2 ohm sub and your speakers will be 4 ohms. so look at rms ratings on the amp for running 4 ohms and look at the 2 ohm rms rating for the mono channel for the sub. Oh and more watts equals more sound rms wise. A 5 channel amp is perfect for what you're trying to do.

use an external amp for speakers and a second amp for subwoofer then you will have a powered system all after market head units have no RMS power that's why you need an external amp for speakers and a subwoofer is a nice addition the RMS rating is the most important numbers on an external amp and don't go over what your speakers can handle,max.75 RMS per channel even a little smaller to be safe.it works the same way for the sub woofers amp.and how much the sub. can handle in the RMS reading.they aways try to fool you with them big watt numbers its the same with amplifiers and sub woofers.stick with name brand equipment.take a look under ebay car audio then amplifiers and sub woofers, they sell new and used equipment and have ebay buyer protection so you can't lose.you will also need a wiring kit look at that to and get the right one for the amp you pick.im not going to lie it can be a head ake but you will be happy in the end.good luck.
Headunits will never exceed 20Wx4 WRMS so a new head unit is out of the question. You will need a 4 channel amp with at least 75WRMS per channel to drive those speakers properly.
