How do I hook up a alternator to a plain battery?

Do i have to add an extra battery and an alternator to my 95Buick riviera if i want to hook up an amp wit subs?

  • some one told me i would have to add a extra battery and a stronger Alternator for the car or else i will mess up the electrical system..

  • Answer:

Forget the 2nd battery unless you have a high output alternator. A 1300 watt RMS amp is pushing a stock alternator a bit, but it should last for some time. If your alternator ever blows, you can upgrade to a high output version. A cap will do NOTHING for you, neither will a second battery. First thing to do is upgrade your "big three". If you're going to be putting out 1200w RMS or more, it's recommended that do upgrade to either a new battery or add a 2nd, and upgrade to a high output alternator to avoid issues with your vehicle's electrical system.

they are right, but it wont mess any thing up if you dont
