What size anl fuse do I use?

I am wondering how to calculate what size inline fuse to use in my power wire.?

  • I would like to know, how to know how many amps the fuse in the power wire should be. I am planning to upgrade my current system with two 1500w max amps. but i need to know how to determine what size fuse should be in the power line near the battery. i current have a 150amp fuse.

  • Answer:

What size does the pre-amps call for ? At 150 amps (thats approx 2100 watts)I would probably run new individual cables from the power source (batteries) to each amp . a lot cheaper than finding the fire dept hosing out your car How many amps or watts is your alternator capable or producing ?

The size of the fuse is dictated by the size of the wire it is protecting. You did not state that vital part. You can't put a huge fuse on a small wire just because you have big amps on it.

What you need to do is find out what the cable is rated for then use that size fuse. it doesnt matter how many watts you push. the fuse is so you dont short out the wire and start a fire. Check the wire manufacture rating!!! Best answer this plz!
