What is Dimmer wire on my wiring harness for?

I have no yellow wire in my wiring harness?

  • my toyota pickup has no yellow illumination wire for me to hook the yellow wire from the sony wiring harness to i tried hooking it up to 12volts and all it does it make a clicking noise where the cd goes in

  • Answer:

yellow usually goes to the battery, if it's an illumination control wire (dims light to match dash lights), then you don't have to connect it. But like I said, yellow usually goes straight to the battery, and red goes to a Positive Switched wire that only has power when you turn the key

Other answers

not every car has an illumination wire in the factory harness. if your toyota is missing the wire where the orange wire is on the harness adapter, then you dont have this option. i have to agree with the first answer though, yellow from the sony will mean constant 12volts, not illumination. make sure you are reading the wiring code directions correctly. that clicking noise may be the cd player trying to power up.
