How do you wire to different ohms?

How to wire a sub at 4 ohms?

  • I have a pioneer 1400 watt 400 RMS dual voice coil sub and i want to run it at 4 ohms. each set of coils have 4 ohm resistance. how would this be done?

  • Answer:

yeah you will have to run that at 2ohm or 8ohm... dont just hook up one coil, dvc subs are NOT meant to be run that way. if ya want 4ohm ya need another sub.

What kind of amp are you running?

Run two pairs of wires, one pair to each speaker from the amp at 2-ohms. (However this depends on your amp and if it can operate for 2-ohms, otherwise you run the risk of damaging your amp and speakers) This will effectively power the two speakers as 4 ohms OK, what I wrote above is wrong, I missed the part where they are DVC's. Your two options are to run it at either 2ohms or 8ohms. See this link http://www.kicker.com/dvc_wiring "Using dual 4 ohm voice coils"
