What Amp and head unit paired with this sub?

Can my car head unit push a small sub without an amp?

  • I just recently bought a new car stereo head unit. 240 peak watt not sure of the RMS output... I was looking at buying a small 8" subwoofer. I don't really want to mess with getting an amp and everything. I don't want a lot of bass just a nice beat. Would the head unit be able to push 4 speakers and a small subwoofer? Thanks.

  • Answer:

It more then likely wont. Be cause the sub needs a high output to run and when u bring up the bass on the stereo to here the sub then ur spearks bass get loud to and u dont always want that. Just get a small amp, its easy and will sound better.

Why not consider replacing your rear speakers with a set of "shallow mount" subs. These 6.5" Earthquake subs would probably fit. http://infiniteelectronix.com/earthquakesws-656-12inchshallowmountsubwooferspr.aspx JL Audio and Kicker also make 6.5's. Any of them would probably perform better when powered from a head unit than a larger sub. And by replacing the rear speakers you don't affect your "soundstage" and you don't run into any impedance mismatches.

No because you have a 4 channel out put and if u split any channel to hook a sub it will change the impedance and overheat the deck or burn it up. Now u can get an amp the uses high level input and u can wire ur input from the factory speak soo all u have to run is a power wire tothe amp and ground it where u install it or buy a step down which both of those will replace running a rca and remote wire.
