What kind of Rockford Fosgate should I get?

What kind of amp should I get for a single Rockford Fosgate P34D12 subwoofer? It is a DVC 4 ohm sub.?

  • I currently have a Kenwood KAC-7204 and it is definitely underpowering the sub. It is currently hooked up to the sub in series as an 8 ohm load. Can I put configure it as parallel and get it down to a 2 ohm load or will that blow the amp/sub? or what new amp should I get? THANK YOU!!!

  • Answer:

OK lemme tell you something about Kenwood: They manufacture AWESOME head units, really, it's superb, and their speakers aren't that bad either, but NEVER buy their amplifiers. It's underpowered and overheats quickly. Back to the point, Because you have a DVC sub, you have a massive range to choose from, as you can either get a 2 channel amp or a monoblock. Many will agree that a monoblock is the way to go, as it is designed for subwoofers and produces more power than the average stereo amp. I don't know how big your subwoofers is (power wise, in RMS or peak), so I'de recommend the smallest quality monoblock I know, and that is the Calibra CA2800xi. It pushes 500W RMS at 2 ohms, so it would be perfect for your sub!
