How to set the gain on amp?

How should i set my amp gain?

  • i have a clarion 6 volt pre out head unit & a hifonics brutus amp that excepts up to 9 volt inputs, i know im supposed to match the amp gain to the head unit output but what is wrong with turning the gain all the way up to get more bass? thanks!

Its best to match them up ya but you can play around with it....just turn the subs up pretty loud and set the gain so the subs dont distort.

If you're not careful, even though the gains are there for you to use, you CAN overheat your amp and/or blow your subs. I saw an individual (and it wasn't me lol) that hooked up an amp and raised the gains all the way to the max and blew the sub. So take caution when doing this or you could very well be replacing some equipment. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Dude you cant just turn the gain up. If you turn the gain up too high you will "clip" the signal, since the amp is being overdriven. Its trying to make too much power with too little signal and the signal will clip and possibly send DC power to your speaker. You can easily damage speakers. The gain shouldnt be too high with 6 volt preouts. The gain is NOT A VOLUME KNOB.
