New car radio in a 1974 truck?
-
My neighbor just got bought a used truck for $1000, thats all they could afford because they have like no money. It is a 1974 ford truck, and since its soo old and so little money, i really doubt its relaiable. Anyway, the radio in it is the radio the truck came with, so its the very very old kind. I thought I would be nice and buy some things for them to help fix up their truck, and i found a $78 new car radio- a Sony MP3/WMA Player CD Receiver. I was wondering If you could even install such new technology on a truck that old, and would it even fit?

The big problem you will have is mounting it, since the truck has a shaft style mount. The receiver may have to be mounted under the dash. That is very generous of you to buy such an item.
yes it will work and it will fit though u may have to do a little cutting to make the new radio fit into the old radio location. I have always used a lil hacksaw metal cutting blade to cut out the knob slots and then trim the opening wide enough for the newer radio sleeve to fit. Use the sleeve as your gauge to how much u need to cut.If u take your time and cut it out where the sleeve fits, u won't even need a kit. Doubtful u find a wiring harness to fit that truck but it will only have a few amount of wires anyway so u won't have much to locate . It will help if u change out the speakers also because the factory speakers won't last long with the new radio shooting power to them they never were meant to handle also the radio and speaker set that in their now may use a common ground wiring, so running some new speaker wire is better anyway. Grab u a test light and find your power wire and locate the existing ground or simple run you a ground wire from radio ground to metal frame( its an old truck so metal is plentiful lol)
