Which Amp will be better?

Which amp/sub combo is better?

  • okay, so im in a bit of a pickle, dick. I want to know which sub/ amp combo is better. I drive a toyota echo coupe, so I only want one subwoofer because my car is so small that even an 8 inch sub would probably too much. I listen to mainly indie rock and songs with organic bass, but the bass is still supposed to be powerful. Now i CAN'T decide which amp/sub to get!!!! can you guys help me? Now, here's my first choice combo: An Alpine Type E 12inch 250w RMS sub. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8699447&type=product&id=1199494646811 and an Alpine 500w Class D mono amp 300w RMS@ 4Ohm http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8699358&type=product&id=1202649210874 Now my second option is a Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" 150w RMS sub http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8265717&type=product&id=1170289779897 and a Rockford Fosgate 150w @ 4ohm amp http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8266404&type=product&id=1170289781245 Will wither of these combos give me the hard hitting natural bass im looking for? Also, why is the rockford fosgate amp allegedly mono, but is class A/B? I though mono amps were class D? Also, best buy is having a special were i can save $150 if i buy a RF amp and sub together with installation, and im all about saving money, but I would rather pay more to get the alpine combo if it'll sound better...thanks!

  • Answer:

First off, mono amps can be class A/B too! In fact, back in the day before class D came to car audio, all mono amps WERE class A or A/B. The "class" is just the topology and has nothing to do with how many channels. The alpine is the CLEAR winner here man... first off, you are wasting a lot of money buying from best buy and having them install it... just FYI. The alpine amp is more powerful, and I prefer the sound of that sub to the RF. The RF setup would be pretty darn weak...And that amp is a total ripoff... you can get a 1200 watt amp online, better quality, for less than that.

ok, both alpine and rockford have very excellent quality in car audio but if i'd have to chose sides it'd be alpine, ive been a huge fan for years of alpine and if you get the set up make sure its alpine all the way: headunit, amp, and sub and the type e wont give you wat you need type e is for someone who wants a tiny more bass go with a type s or even better a type r type x is an explosive amount very popular but not for your application lol but apline deffinatly
