How do i wire my stereo?

How to wire a car stereo to turn off when I open the door?

  • Right now, my new aftermarket car stereo turns off as soon as I turn the key to "off". My previous aftermarket stereo didn't turn off right away, it waited until i opened the door or until a certain amount of time passed. How can i reconnect my car stereo wires to turn off when my door opens? Or is this a feature of the stereo itself that cannot be changed?

  • Answer:

that feature depends on the car usually... it has to do with the way the car's electronic system is made to work. i wouldnt be surprised if your lighter outlet stopped working after you shut off the car, too. if it doesnt, then check the fuse housing under the hood. look for a fuse that obviously doesnt have to do with any engine components. check your manual, and look for a small (around 10-15 amps) fuse that makes everything shut off when the car is off. im sorry i dont know the name. it wont be any of the large square ones. i havent done this on my car but i have seen it done on a friends that i helped wire. hope this helps a little.
