What is the best setup I can use with a C 12" kicker in my car audio system?
-
I have a C 12" kicker subwoofer, I don't want to spend more than $300 to set it all up. I know I have to get a box (preferably ported), an amp (the subs peak power is 300W) and some wires. What would you do in this situation. What specific things should I get for the best sound but still under $300.

Answer:
I don't like to suggest it but go to a pawn shop. generally if a product has been there too long they will come down on price. make sure you check reviews and true specs of the amp before you buy it. Pawnshops are filled with salesman and not car audio enthusiasts and will try to sell you a 300 watt jensen amp for $100 and it's only worth $5.00. I generally use Craigslist. Since you are on a tight budget you are gonna have to go used to get good quality stuff.

This subwoofer is designed to handle 150 watts RMS (continuous power). To keep costs low: 2-channel amplifier; bridge it into 1 channel operation mode: POWER ACOUSTIK CPT2-600 CRYPT SERIES CLASS AB AMPLIFIER - $78.77 http://www.cheapforme.com/product_info.php/products_id/7276204 This amplifier puts out 250 watts RMS in bridged mode. You will need to turn the gain dial (volume level) down on the amplifier so it's not pushing 250 watts, otherwise, you might blow the subwoofer. It's also good to have an amplifier with more power than you need in case you upgrade later down the road. Because boxes tend to be more in terms of shipping cost, your best bet would be to find one locally. PYLE PLAM40 4-GAUGE AMPLIFIER INSTALLATION KIT - $20.17 http://www.cheapforme.com/product_info.php/products_id/3997686 A 4-gauge amplifier installation kit will work fine. Atrend E12Sv B Box Series 12-Inch Single Vented Subwoofer Enclosure is the first pre-fab subwoofer box I've ever used and I'm impressed with its quality. Atrend uses some decent quality materials and tunes the box to make a 12" sub hit very, very hard. As for the other reviews that mention a glue smell when the box gets warm, I can't say that I've noticed anything at all even after hours of operation. If you don't have the time, money or inclination to build your own sub box, this is a very welcome alternative.
