How do i connect my dvd to my car power supply?

  • Answer:

Hi, if it is an in car dvd player, it will usually have either a plug and play set up that will just plug right into the cars wiring loom where the radio would have plugged in, or it may come with a set of wires (colour coded) which you must join to the corresponding wires using the supplied wire connector blocks, sometimes called scotch locks or splicing blocks, with these you do not have to cut any wires in your vehicles wiring you just clip the splicing block and the relevant wire together with a pair of pliers, and the connector pushes a metal contact plate through both wires connecting them, if you look in your user manual it will show the colour coded wires and what they need to connect to, and if the dvd player does not show your car then your vehicle manual will have the colour codes of the wires in the wiring diagram, you should do all of this with the battery disconnected in case you short a wire or touch a live to ground etc, and before you re connect the battery check check and then check again to make sure the wires are all where they should be, if not you could blow a fuse or even the dvd unit, if in any doubt at all take it to a garage and get them to fit it, a few bucks spent like this can save an expensive mistake if you blow the whole thing up! hope this helps, Cheers CC
