How would I wire subs to AMP?

How should I wire my subs on my two channel amp to get the most power?

  • I have an older 2 channel Rockford Fosgate Punch 201s amp. I have not gotten any subs yet, but I am thinking that I will want 2 subs, 10s or maybe 12s. Should I get 2 ohm or 4 ohm subs? SVC or DVC? How should I wire them to get the most power out of my amp? The specs for the amp are here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-61Np1XHVfoD/p_575201S/Rockford-Fosgate-Punch-201S.html#overview-tab

  • Answer:

With an amp like that I really don't see the point in going with a pair of subs. It's rated for 200w rms bridged at 4 ohms, even assuming it's under-rated you probably won't get more than 250w rms out of it. That's just enough to run one decent sub fairly well. It wouldn't do much for a pair. You'd be giving up twice as much space for very little, if any improvement in output or sound quality. Ideally you'd be looking for either a dvc 2 or svc 4 that's 200-300w rms. If you're set on a pair of subs you'd want dual 4's.
