Should I bridge my amp?

A4801T amp question, does this amp bridge twice?

  • http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_13500_Audiobahn_A4801T.aspx says it can do 700 x 2 @4 ohms mono does this mean you have 2 bridged outputs? does someone have a diagram they couuld show me? I think it means can you bridge it twice, one bridge can do 700 @ 4 ohms, other does 700 @ 4 ohms.

  • Answer:

Yes, you can bridge on both the upper and lower set of terminals. Channels 1/2 (upper terminals) can be bridged into a single mono output using the first + and last - on the speaker output terminals. Likewise, channels 3/4 (lower terminals). As to whether it does 700 watts into 4 ohms, most likely not. It has 2 40A fuses so the absolute maximum power it could draw at 12.8V is 1,024 watts. It's a Class AB amp which is generally 40-50% efficient. Assuming maximum efficiency (and there are NO such amps), it could, in theory, output perhaps as much as 512 watts. Here's a link to the amp manual: The wiring diagrams begin on page 18. http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/Manuals/037/037A4801T.PDF
