What do I need to complete system?

What else do I need to complete my cars audio system?

  • I am the owner of a 2003 350z, I know quite a bit about cars and engines, but have very little knowledge about audio systems. I want to put an aftermarket system in soon. I have done a small amount of research and found that my car takes 4x 6.5" speakers (2 front, 2 back), 2x 3/4" tweeters (or 1" would work according to a forum), and it has 1 stock sub-woofer behind the driver seat. I was planning on ordering the 6.5s and tweeters online, and my plan is to buy the sub-woofer box that can fit under the rear strut bar, and holds 2x 10" subs. So the speakers are done, now is the part im clueless on. What else do I need? I dont want bestbuy or whoever to rip me off by making me purchase more than i need. The previous owner has high quality RCA's running from behind the deck to all the speaker areas. (not plugged in at this time, he used them for his system that he tore out before selling the car) Do i need an amp, any capacitors or anything of that nature. Any advice is helpful thanks. PS im thinking all infinity speakers, and some other brand subs. (any good brands you guys like???) and i do have an aftermarket deck so thats fine as well.

  • Answer:

for brands i would go for alpine or kicker or jbl you will need a amplifier to power it up, i think you should put ur subwoofers in a box though as they will sound much louder couple of tweeters is good and i think you should buy coxail speakers

i wouldnt go jbl but mtx is good and so is rockford and pioneer speakers get an amp and one 15 more then likly you will have more bass from one 15 then two 10s but amp wiring harness rockford componet speakers an a rockford 10 for behind your seat and then a nice 15 with an amp wou'll spend like $300-$500 online

If your going to be running the speakers through an amp (what I've done) you will need seperate a 4 channel amp. You'll need a MonoBlock amp to power the subs aswell. If your head unit only has one preout run the rca's to the speaker amp, then another set from the 'out' plugs to the monoblock amp. I have a bug eye imrpreza & Ive got the headunit running to the 4channel amp powering speakers & goodies, the monoblock amp running off the 4 channel amp (although i would preefer it out the head unit) to power the subs. My subs are in boxes, although i have custom corner boxes made from fibreglass, but i dont think sound as good as the wooden boxes.
