How can i fix my car radio?

• ok this radio has been giving me fits for months. it keeps shorting out. it turns off all the time. in the winter when its too cold its goes out. when its too hot in the summer it goes out. if it rains the thing can have problems. ive noticed times when i hit the brakes the radio breaks up and goes out.when the car and radio are off i can hear the speakers crackle every few seconds. also in april i went away to missouri and the car wasnt driven for about 3 days and when i got back the battery was completely dead. my question is what could be the problem and how can i check it out? where in the car do i look to check out the fuses and what professional place can i go to repair this problem? also if you have any clue, how much would an inspection cost as well as any type of repair you would suggest?

  You could put a multi-tester in series with the power wire and then see if there is a current draw when the radio is off. The crackling already shows there may be. If it is the kind of radio without an mechanical on/off switch but instead just a push button which is on or off alternately but not a fixed function, then the problem is inside the radio. But it could be fixed by an electronics technician if worth the cost. It might also be a bare wire shorting out in the wires leading to the radio--this is suggested by the reaction to the braking. Check all the wires visually and you will probably find the fault.
