What would be better a 2-ohm sub or a 4-ohm sub?

I need a car audio expert. I'm buying a JL 13W3v3 sub either 2ohm or 4ohm and I need to know which amp to get.?

  • Now I know the subs optimum RMS rating is 400W and I've also been told by a reliable source that the best amp to power this sub would be JL's 500/1v2. However i do not want to spend that much on an amp. So I've done some research and found a few other amps at lower prices that i think will power this sub. Yet I know nothing about car audio I just matched specifications from the JL 500/1v2 to these cheaper amps. So if there's anybody out there that can help me I would like for you to recommend which sub to purchase (either the 2ohm or 4ohm) and which of the following amps would power it the best or if you know of another cheap amp under $120 that i did not list then recommend that one. Thank you. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_24652_Boss_Audio_PH1500M.aspx http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_24008_Lanzar_MAXP1200.aspx http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_26772_Planet_Audio_AC15001M.aspx http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_25655_Power_Acoustik_CPT1-1500.aspx http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_24131_SoundStorm_EV1500M.aspx

If I were you and my budget was $120 I would get this amp and a 4 ohm subwoofer. I would bridge it and get full power at 4 ohms, since the sound is best for most amps at 4 ohm and the power is more than enough for your sub. http://apex-audio.com/2-channel/audiopipe-ap2002-channel-1000-watt-mosfet-amplifier-p-17932.html The amp has a built in crossover and has bass boost too. Audiopipe stuff sounds great and is reasonably priced. Don't forget to get an amp kit so you have all the wiring you need to run your amp. I would look for an 8 gauge amplifier wiring kit like this one: http://apex-audio.com/amplifier-wiring-kits/audiopipe-bms1500x-gauge-amplifier-wiring-p-17970.html If your budget allows you can get an amp kit, the next step up in audiopipe amps the 1,500 watt max amp, and rush shipping. BTW- Before you ask, a 1,500 watt max amp is fine on that subwoofer since you won't be getting 1,500 watts rms, and it's distortion that blows subwoofers, not a slightly higher than rated power output from an amplifier.
