How do you hook up 2 amps to 1 sub?
-
yes i have a FI btl 15in subwoofer dual 2 ohms and i have two audioque 2200's i wanna hook both to this one subwoofer. how will i get into doing that? dont want advice of what i should do other than this. i just wanna learn how i could hook up two amps to one subwoofer that is dual 2 ohms could i just strap then amplifiers together and wire the sub into the master amplifier? the thing is that if i strap its only stable at 2 ohms and if i wire it series it will be 4 ohms and if i wire it parallel it will be 1 ohm. im not sure what 4 ohms will come out too when its strapped i know 1 ohm will be more than 4400rms but thats risking it. so any other way than strapping it

Answer:
You can do 1 amp per voice coil but it has to be done right. You have to make the 2 circuits as identical as possible or the amps won't share the load equally and you risk damaging the amps and the sub. First the gains have to be matched so that both amps put out the same number of volts to the sub for a given input signal. Then everything else needs to be matched too, length, gauge, brand, and connectors of the power, ground, and speaker wiring all needs to be the same. This means 1 heavy wire run to the battery and a distribution block to split the power wire to the 2 amps. The 2 voice coils will act as a 1:1 ratio transformer so if one amp is feeding its coil say 20 volts AC and the other is only feeding say 18 volts the 20 volt one will hog all of the load and may even try to backfeed power into the 18 volt one. You can imagine what kind of damage this could cause.

You can use one amp for one side of the coils and the other amp for the other side of the coils. Or you can link the coils to together. 2 positive coils linked as 1 and the same for the negative. And run both of your amps on the coils.

You need to strap them. One will be master, other slave. If you hook each coil up to one, you will not have it gain matched properly and have issues. A lot of guys are familier with these products on http://carstereoforum.net/index.php That BTL will not handle that much power daily. What is your box tuned to? Join that forum and post this info.
