How does a car stereo system work?

Would my DC to AC inverter work for my stereo system in my car?

  • Basically, it's a 75 Watt DC to AC inverter, and will be used with an Altec Lansing 251 Model of a stereo system. My question is, when using my ipod, can i play music directly off of the stereo system using the car's power? Or will it fail miserably? I want to know so I don't go spending money on a waste of time. Thanks :)

    The Altec Lansing 251 is a 5.1 "surround sound" speaker system that includes a powered subwoofer. The satellite speakers need a separate power amplifier and audio source. A 75 watt inverter might be able to provide power for the subwoofer, but you would need a bigger inverter for an amp powering the satellite speakers.

Yes it will work the 75 power is close to the power you need but if the valume is not all the way up it will be ok now is this a bad idea ? yes very bad idea there are other ways to listen to the ipod in the car you you are going to have a lot of lose parts in the car just to liste to your ipod look for a ipod interface that will work with your radio or a auxiliary audio input made for your car that way there is no need to use all this equipment or in the worse case a hardwire fm modulator for ipod

The inverter is too small to power that stereo, you need an inverter that can output 400watts at least to power you setup.

You will do better with a car stereo that has ipod inputs.It will be safer than something loose in the car & more theft resistant Try crutchfield.com they have units that will do what you want starting for about $100
