I have two 12'' subs 800 watts max each, what kind of amp should i get? how many watts for the amp?

Your amps rms wattage needs to match the rms rating of the speakers added together, as to not under-power the subs. You can damage speakers by under-powering them easier than over-powering them. The max rating really does not mean anything, I could say an amp has 10,000 watts or 1,000,000 watts max, but I have to tell you what the rms wattage is. The rms wattage is the minimal wattage at continuous power, and that's what important. If you buy subs, make sure the rms of the amp matches or exceeds the rms of the subs- then you're using your subs effientently!
