Do I need crossover for subs?

What do I need to hook up my subs?

  • These are the subs I want: * Sensitivity: 89 dB * RMS Power Range : 600 Watts * Peak Power Handling: 2000 Watts * Impedance: 4 Ohm * Low Frequency response: 20 Hz * High Frequency Response: 2000 Hz * Diameter: 12 Inch This is the amp I want Amplifier Class D Number of Channels 1 - Mono RMS Power (4 ohms) 300 watts x 1 channel RMS Power (2 ohms) 500 watts x 1 channel RMS Power (1 ohm) Not Stable Bridged RMS Power Not Bridgeable Total RMS Power Output 500 watts Peak Power Output 1000 watts x 1 channel Total Peak Power Output 1000 watts Minimum Impedance Unbridged 2 ohms Minimum Impedance Bridged N/A THD at Rated RMS Power 0.8% Speaker Level Inputs Yes Preamp Outputs 1 pair Built-in Crossover Low-pass (LP) High-Pass Crossover Frequency N/A Low-Pass Crossover Frequency 50 - 200 Hz Subsonic Filter N/A Signal-to-Noise Ratio 83 dB Channel Separation N/A Bass Boost 0 - 18 dB Bass/Gain Remote No Fan Cooled Yes Fuse Rating 40A x 1 Is there a guide I can use to hook them up? Also, what do I need (wires/tools and such), and how much is it going to cost for that extra stuff? I know very little about installing subs.

  • Answer:

Your going to need a bigger amp, if you have two of those subs you will only be pushing 250watts to each. Get an amp that has around 1000-1200 watts at 2ohms

have you purchased the sub and amp yet? with these specs you will only be getting 300watts to your woofers meaning 150watts each and they will be underpowerd, you should fing an amp that will make around 1000watts at 4ohm or 500watts @4 ohms with 2 channels.depending on the amp you could just need a phillips screwdriver and the necessary wiring kit or you made need an allen wrench for the amp to connect the wires

I would recommend you take it to an installer to install the system since you have no idea. This way you'll have no trouble at all. You didn't mention the head unit you have, if you did not replace them then it's more complicated to install the amps and speaker if you haven't done one before. Finding the proper wire to trigger your subwoofer amp from a factory unit is hard.
