What do I hook my amp up to?

I have hooked up a car amp and subwoofers in house with a psu. But i cant hook to tv for surround sound. What?

I have hooked up a car amp and subwoofers in house with a psu. But i cant hook to tv for surround sound. I bought y connect and can hook up ipod and listen to it through subs and 6x9 but when i try and hook to LCD tv it dosnt work. Is there a speacial cable i have to buy? you need a way to send an audio signal to the amps of your speakers. if you are just using a cable, from a cable tv, then you can't get surround sound. the reason being is that the tv doesn't have any outputs, only inputs. so If you hook up a cable between the amp and tv, you won't get anything, because both of them are waiting for an input. and there aren't any audio jacks on a cable. if you have a cable box that has some audio jacks, then it will work. otherwise you can't get surround sound from your cable.
