I need help choosing a amp for my subwoofer!!!?
-
I am buying a 15" kicker l5 in a ported box for my truck and gonna be getting a new amp too, i dont want ro soend mlre than $210 on ebay (ofcorse for a new amp) I am tied between a hifonics 2000 watt amp ($200) or a planet audio 5000 watt amp for $200. I know a few people with hifonics Amps and I know they are great for the money. And I also used to have a 2000 watt planet audio amp on 2 kicker cvr 15's and it was loud!! So I know planet audio isn't too bad. Can someone help me decide!!! I also know that I might wanna upgrade to 2 kicker l5 15's then when I do that, would the planet audio be able to push both? I know if I get the hifonics, and then 2 l5's imma just get another hifonics and have a amp on each sub

Answer:
on were did i read anything about the RMS rating or the class d amplifiers total RMS or how much RMS the sub woofers can handle.watts don't mean sht.the RMS rating is the continuous power an amplifier can make per channel or if its a class d amplifier its total RMS rating.and a sub woofer has the total RMS rating it can handle,if you have 2 sub woofers each with a RMS rating of 400 RMS each then you need a class d amplifier that makes 800 RMS to have a match for the sub woofers.this is what your looking for and at how many ohms your planning on running at and make sure the equipment can handle the load .most sub woofers are rated to run at a 4 ohm load.remember if you decide to run it on a 2 ohm load the lower the ohms the bigger the draw on your charging system and then your looking into alternator upgrades.go middle of the road kicker set up running on 4 ohms it plenty of bass, people that get fancy with the wiring most of the time cook there equipment either subs or amps go with what the equipment is rated for.and be safe not sorry.hope this helps.

the kicker l5 is a dual 4ohm subwoofer and if you get 2 of those you can wire them to a 1ohm load and the planet audio puts out 3500watt rms @ 1ohm if i'm correct, and each sub requires 750watt rms, so go with the planet audio, it wil be able to push both when you get the other. al that said i still think hifonics is the better brand here
Hifonics Hfi Series D-Class Mono Amplifier is a great amp just as it states im feeding two 12in Kenwood typhoons at 800watts rms n is has plenty more to offer i have em wired up at 1ohm wow this things kick n the remote comes in handy wen u get pulled over just crank it down ..
amateur, you will never get that power from that junk! go look up professional audio, look at those competitors, see what it really takes to push 300 watts let alone 5000. Your wasting your time on ****. If you just a want a bumpity bump garbage with no high treble in the mix, any amp will do
