Quantum audio cosmic amps?

Why isn't my Audio amps getting power?

  • I have hooked up cheap 2400w max (1200w rms) audio amps to my 18" sub-woofer concert speakers in my house. I have them mounted on the backs of the speakers. Each speaker is rated 8ohm 600-1200 watts a piece. I didn't have the money to purchase a high powered DJ amp to push them properly so I opted out and did the Car audio route. I purchased a A/C to D/C converter to run the amps. When the BAT+ wire is connected as well as the GRND into the amp, the amps still will not power on. I've tried grounding strait to the converter as well as grounding the wires to my metal TV stand. I don't know what I'm missing. I don't have a tester so the converter may not even be putting out. Following is the configuration with each amp to speaker; Converter plugged in A/C; Red/POS = to BAT+ amp in. Black/GRND = to GRND amp in. (usually is from the car frame) Amps: BAT+ in = from converter (fused) GRND in = from converter or metal tv stand (usually is from the car frame) 2 Channel Speaker out = Bridged to concert speaker [ -(used) + / - +(used)] Left/Right (red/white) RCA in = RCA running from 12" 500w powered home Sub-woofer (RCA out) There is no power button on the amp itself as some do. Also the converter is Coarsely adjusted by a turn knob controlling the Volts and one knob for Amps. The Volts I of course have set to 12.0 but when i turn the Amp knob nothing happens, it stays .00. I don't know if the converter is faulty or the display only shows what is being used, which doesn't make sense either. Does anyone know what my mistake might be besides buying cheap stuff..lol? Thanks a bunch...

There should be another wire to hook up to the power wire, generally right next to the positive. This extra wire, for when hooked up in a car, is connected to the radio, and the radio is turned on, it sends power through this extra wire telling the amp to turn on.

You need a proper ground or negative wire to power the unit. Metal stand won't do it. The negative has to be part of the circuit. The way you have it the ground isn't part of the circuit. A cars frame is a direct connection to the battery negative, or ground. Does your converter have a negative lead? This is where you should connect your Amp power negative. Otherwise the positive is connected correctly.

Ya, adam and I agree on this... There will be another wire there called a remote wire, and this is used in cars to know when your key has turned on the the acc position and above so that your car does not die from powering the amp constantly. Since you are not worried about your house running out of power, you can just hook the remote and the power wire into the positive on the converter... Plus, the converter probably has an on off switch on it as well, so it wont be constantly drawing power.
