What are taxes in Pennsylvania?

Taxes in Pennsylvania for pet sitting services?

  • My husband and I are starting a pet sitting service in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area. Do I need to charge sales tax for this service? I looked on the Pennsylvania Revenue website but it was unclear. Does it matter what county you live in? I currently have a full-time job but if this takes off, this will become my full-time job. Will I have to pay self-employment taxes if this is my part-time job? If this is my full-time job? Thanks!

  • Answer:

It is not taxable for sales tax. Look at REV-717, page 32. Sorry Judy. Helen, EA in PA Edit, Judy, I don't pay sales tax for boarding and neither should you. Most services (right now, ask Uncle Ed if we ever get a budget) don't pay sales tax.

Other answers

It's taxable for sales tax. The income is taxable for both state and federal income tax, and for self employment tax, whether or not it's your full time job. Edit: OK, I'll defer to Helen - she looked it up for sales tax, where I just went on memory (apparently wrong) of being charged sales tax for boarding a dog in PA. For income and se tax though, it is definitely taxable.
