Can a Physician Assistant be self employed?

Self employed personal assistant how do I get paycheck proof income etc?

  • I am looking to be a personal assistant to a really big/busy family but how can they pay me in paychecks etc so I have proof of income? They are not a business or anything just family that will be hiring me for a few years if things turn out well. Do I have to make myself self employed or something somehow to make it official? Does the family need To do anything on there end?

  • Answer:

this is not caring for the children or an invalid relative? then it would not be a nanny tax situation therefore you best keep track of all your income, they actually should be issuing a 1099 if they pay you more than $600 in a year but don't count on it and you will file Sch C and SE with your 1040

Assuming that you will be performing the services primarily in their home, you are classified as a household employee and must be paid a paycheck with FICA taxes withheld and be provided a W-2 at the end of the year. Withholding of Federal income taxes is optional if you goth agree. If they balk at this (they may as they will have to pay Federal and State payroll taxes) refer them to IRS Pub 926 http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p926.pdf for guidance.
