The IRS detected that one of the dependents was already claimed on my income tax return, whats next?

  • I claimed two dependants on my income tax return, and my income taxes got filed, I got a call, and was told to contact the company as soon as possible to straighten ou because the IRS rejected my income tax return cause one of the dependents was already filed.But the other dependent wasn't, So all i have to do is go back to the office and get it straightned out, I already know who claimed the other dependent, so Im not gonna seek war, but I want to know since they are going to have me come back in and fix it, what is the IRS going to do with my file now, and what is going to happen?

first of all the most important factor in this is who is eligible to claim the dependents if these your children who live with you more than 183 nites during the year, they are yours to claim, and the only way the other parent can claim either of them would be by the waiver #8332 you would sign to allow the other parent to claim the child it isn't a matter of it not being a big deal, it is a matter of who is eligible and who is not if this person has incorrectly claimed a child they are not eligible to claim you file your return manually and when the problem arises about the duplicate SSN, you are able to prove your eligibility to claim the child
