Why did the IRS take a hell of a lot more money from my Fed tax withholding this year than last year?
-
Last year my fed tax withholding was $1700 and I was issued a $1300 refund. This year, my fed tax withholding was $1400 and they took all of it, except the "Stimulus"?!? I've had the same and only job now for 3 years. Everyone else seems to be getting most of their money back this year, why not me...wtf?!

Answer:
You will need to compare your 2009 return to your 2010 1040 on a line-by-line basis to find the answer. Trying to compare your tax situation to that of your friends and relatives will not give an accurate result.

Because this year the withholding tables worked correctly. The point of withholding is to break even, not have a big refund. Any money not withheld was IN YOUR PAYCHECK, so you got the money already.
