Where can I file 2008 Federal Taxes?

  • I need to file my wife's Federal Tax return for 2008. For almost eight years now we have done it though Turbo Tax but since she procrastinated, it appears as though Turbo Tax e-file online is inactive and will not be active until January 15th (please confirm). That being said, where is a dependable, reputable site where I can file her taxes online instead of waiting till January 15th?

    Dear M: 2008 is a closed year for efile. You can pull all forms from www.irs.gov and do it by hand. 2009 opens for efile on Jan 15 2010. All prior years are mail in returns. With the IRS,but you will probably have to file on paper this late in the year. The IRS is probably getting the computers set up for 2009 filings. For 2009,go buy Taxcut and install it on your computer,the last couple of years,there has been a few complaints about filing online and not having a tax return in hand. By buying the program,you can e-file or paper file,make a back up copy and a hard (printout) copy for your records. If you can itemize,you cal also deduct the cost of the software as Tax Preparation Fees. To get 2008 tax forms,visit the local IRS office or download from the IRS website,yoou'll have to do the same thing for the state taxes.

You will have to fill it out by paper and mail it in. Electronic filing for 2009 ended 10/15/2009. The electronic filing that starts on 1/15/2010 will be for the 2009 tax year....only.

that method of filing is limited during the year, therefore you will have to do it manually, sorry, procrastination is not a good habit to get into
