Unemployment in Florida.

Having issues claiming unemployment in state of Florida.?

  • I was a contracted insurance agent in Florida but paid via W2 from a company in Wisconsin. I recently terminated my contract with the company and went to file unemployment in Florida but their department is saying no reported wages. They suggested i contact WI as the W2 was issued from the company based there. WI is stating no wages exist either. I am doing something wrong? because neither state seems to know whats up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Florida can work it up with copies of your 2010 W-2 and pay stubs that show how much you earned in 2011.

Isnt terminating your contract the same as quitting? If you quit you are not usually qualified for unemployment benefits.

I've been through the same thing, they said contact louisianna, etc...You may have to ask the company where they filed your wages. Showing them documents might help. I don't know how they hide wages like that, but I've had it happen in florida and new jersey. New jersey couldn't find wages and wouldn't accept even w2's and wage stubs. I finally got it out of the company they reported my wages to some weird multistate entity, but I don't remember the name of it and never understood what it was, but I called new jersey back and the second I said what they told me they tapped a couple keys and poof, they found it. I'm currently having problems with florida.

If YOU terminated the contract, you won't get unemployment. You are voluntarily unemployed. You quit. Also, something is up, b/c you can't be a contractor AND get a W2.
