Maine state tax question for 2009 Tax Return, re: Residency or Partial-residence?
-
My wife and I sold our Boise, ID home and build a home in Maine and relocated to Maine on 6/1/2009. We plan to spend about 8 months of the year in Maine, and 4 months somewhere else going forward. The Idaho state tax form is pretty simple, as it preselected "Partial-year resident" for Idaho. The Maine tax form is not quite so easy. Since I was only in Maine for 7 months in 2009, do I select "Partial-year resident" or Resident. I know that going forward (2010, 2011, etc.) I will have to use Resident.

Other answers
it appears once you are settled in Maine and for the major portion of the year live there, you are a Main resident, and file the state tax there
Use the Schedule NR with the Maine Form 1040ME to adjust your Federal AGI as a part-year resident.
