What is tax liability?

What is my tax liability if i only made 1237.00 dollars this year and i have 3 kids 7 and under?

  • since the child tax credit is a nonrefundable tax credit, you may not be able to use all of the $1000 child tax credit per child if: your tax liability is less than the total child tax credit amount allowed, or your modified adjusted gross income is higher than the child tax credit threshold levels for your tax filing status. im trying to understand what this means i'm trying to see how much i'd get back on my taxes..

  • Answer:

You have zero federal tax liability if you aren't married, and might be eligible for $551 of EIC if YOU are not a dependent. With income that low though, you obviously didn't support the 3 kids or even yourself, so you might not be eligible. When you have no federal tax liability, you don't get the child tax credit. You didn't make enough to qualify for the additional child tax credit.
