I am currently receiving unemployment from the state of Illinois, I live in Wisconsin, I am not filing taxes?
-
this year, however I know I have to file fedearl taxes on the unemployment, do i also have to file state taxes on this? I did do my federal on TurboTax with the UE included and it said I owe nothing, I find this hard to believe since when I first started getting unemployment I elected to have no federal taxes taken out. I know the first $2400 is tax free, but would'nt I owe something to the IRS on this unemployment? I just don't want to get in trouble here. Thanks to all who answer!!

Answer:
I think this is something you need to ask a tax expert.

I believe most states do not tax unemployment(I did see a post here some time ago about one that apparently did, or at least the asker thought so)
