What is a commercial address?

What if the address I fill in on sites does not match the address on my Tax ID file with the IRS?

  • Hi, I am an international applying for a US Tax ID number. I need the Tax ID for a job performed with a US corp. The company has an online form for me to enter my personal information like Tax ID and address. I am wondering what will happen if the address I use to fill in the online form ( a US address) does not match the address I use when I apply for the Tax Id number(international address). The Tax ID is the same, just the address is different. Will the IRS compare the two and think that I am cheating or something like that? I personally think it is the Tax ID number that matters. Please give me advice. Thanks

  • Answer:

Unless you will be performing the service for the company within the US or are an owner of the company, you do NOT need a US Tax ID number. You have no US tax liability and since you don't, you cannot get a US Tax ID.
