How do I handle my state taxes?

Question about State Taxes?

  • So I owed $1900 to the IRS for taxes. I filed both a state and Federal taxes and I got a letter saying that $954 of my state taxes had been taken to pay back my back owed taxes. So I should only owe the IRS $946. But then I checked the where is my return website and it said they were taking $1900. When I looked closer at the letter from the state it said the IRS wouldn't get my money from them for over 6 weeks. So my question is what happens when they IRS gets that $954? Will they send it to me then since it would be an over payment? Do you know how much longer after that 6 weeks the IRS will send it back to me? I tried calling the IRS to ask but every time I do I get a recorded message saying they are too busy to handle my call and to call back the next day. I've called 5 days in a row.
