Do I qualify for the 2009 Tax Credit (Homeowner)?
-
I have lived in my current house since 2003 (Less than 8 years required by the IRS). However; my house is on the market (For Sale). In the event that I should move prior to or after the deadline for this tax credit (April 30, 2010); am I qualified to get this tax credit or will I be penalized if I should sell my house and not close on another house prior to April 30th?

Answer:
if you do not make the April deadline by closing on your new house you do NOT get the credit

The requirement is that you live in the house for 5 consecutive years out of the last 8, so you're OK there, you don't have to live in it for 8 years.. If you don't close on the purchase of another house by 6/30, and have a binding contract on the purchase of a new house by 4/30, you don't qualify.
