How can I file for unemployment?

How can I file for unemployment?

  • I have been looking for a job for quite some time now and have not been successful.(Like most people.) The last job that I had, I was employed under the table. I haven't had a job on the books for over a year. Is there any way to file for some kind of unemployment? Please any information would help.

  • Answer:

If you are paid "under the books", this means that you did not pay any taxes into social security and your"employer" saved some bucks by not paying into the unemployment system. The bad news is that you are not eligible to claim benefits. You need to see how many months you have credit in your account for work as an employee where you received a W-2. at the end of the year.

If you are self employed or work under the table you will not be able to draw unemployment. I am sorry. I hope you find a job.
