Injured spouse question.?
-
I really need someone who is good with federal tax returns to help me. My husband and I filed Married, filing jointly and I also filed injured spouse the same day because I knew he had back child support. I received only a portion of my federal refund a few weeks, ($1000 out of $8000,) not the entire amount. Is this because they will go back and retrieve the rest of the amount? If that's the case, how long will it take to receive the rest of my refund? My state is NC.

Answer:
You never get the entire refund. The IRS allocates the joint refund between the both of you, seizes his and sends you yours. The $1000 is probably all you going to get if it was from the IRS. Are you sure that the $1000 came from the IRS and not the NC DOR? It is a bit soon to receive a refund with Injured Spouse form.
