How To Bypass Blocked Websites?

Is it illegal to bypass the barrier to websites, that are blocked by the state?

  • I'd like to know, if its illegal to bypass the barrier to a website (for ex. gambling websites), that have been blocked by the state.

  • Answer:

If you're in the US, there is no barrier to any website. If you're referring to the INS "we siezed this domain" page, that's not a barrier. All they did was change the phone number (IP address) in the phone book (DNS Server). If you get the number (address) through other means (which is what those "bypasses" are doing), then it's not illegal. Although gambling online is still illegal so you're breaking the law doing that.

Ben is right. If a site is blocked because it's illegal, accessing it is going to be illegal whether you bypass a block or not.
