What are the octal permissions of the directories /usr/lib?

How can I secure the directories on a shared drive on a Windows 2003 server?

  • I will create the directory structure. Then, the directories should not be able to be deleted or renamed. The users will not have ownership of the directories as they will access the share under a non-administrator id. I already know how to create the share and folders. I dont know how to set up the NTFS permissions and or the share permissions. The users can change the files any way they want.

  • Answer:

Not a problem here.... You simply create a master folder to start.... Then inside create sub folders. Then when you are ready for priority deligation, you will spend lots of time with the security tab under properties for each folder. To make sure the sub folders dont propigate the permissions from the parent folder (assuming you want to get nitty gritty) you need to de-select obtain permissions from parent folder in the permissions area. Then it's pretty straight forward. ALWAYS make sure the administrator has FULL access...no one else...ever. The most anyone should ever get is modify access. Then you , as the admin, have ownership. Keep your eye open for read/list directory access. That is basic for most people. Good luck
