How can I block sites on my laptop?

How can I block this?!?

  • Ok, well, me and my friend are living together for college. We live in his father's house (since he passed away) Anyways, we like using the internet alot. He uses the main one, and I just use my laptop wireless. I didn't know until a while that he can look at what sites (and other internet info) on my laptop from the main computer.. or at least that's what he said. Is there a way I can block it so he can't see anything and I can still use the internet? (Yes, I do have access to the main monitor, he leaves it on the desktop, but I have no password information.) Thanks!

This is done though analyzing the data that is being sent wirelessly between the laptop and router, this is called packet sniffing. One well know program that can do this is called wireshark It is recommended to enable WPA on the router to encrypt the data will be sent between the laptop and router. However he will need to know the WPA key code also if we is to also use the internet too. FYI: If you are logging into a website, accessing your bank account, or anything that involves private personal information. A website should be using an additional encryption algorithm that prevents packet sniffers from getting that information. These website start with "https://" instead of "http://"

Anyone on your network can use a network sniffer to monitor your behaviour. There is nothing you can do about this besides using a VPN tunnel or SSH to access the internet, but this is too complicated for a home user to set up really.

he cant see what you are accessing you can only file share and then you have to accept it so i say your friend is telling fibs. there is no way of him seeing anything your are accessing at all.
